I had a few hours of child-free time last weekend. I was so excited. It was the first time in weeks. I can’t even class work as child-free time; I work in a school. But, at least at work I don’t have to share my lunch or be watched when I go to the toilet…
So as I skipped into town feeling as light as a feather for not being weighed down with a pushchair and My Little Pony back full of toddler essentials, nappies, wipes, clothes hanger and whatever else my little girls need… Predictably first shop that I strolled into was Selfridges. I love this shop. It stores all of my favourite things in the same place: make-up, shoes, perfume and bags. Heaven!
Literally, the first thing that I saw when I entered the shop was this:
I thought it was so cute and stopped to look. I’m not a massive fan of Clinique products. I find their skincare is too harsh and I occasionally use Beyond Perfecting foundation but it’s just so thick. I had never come across Chubby Sticks myself but had been suckered in by the box!
The sales assistant showed me the box and explained that there are two limited edition colours in this box of mini Chubby Sticks. I think she said Fuzzy Wuzzy and Red Violet were the extra shades; I was too taken in by their cuteness to listen properly. The products in this box are not full size, but actually, the difference isn’t too bad. They look approximately two thirds of the normal size which cost £17.50 and this box is £35 so I think it’s a tremendous deal.
Anyone who follows me on Instagram will know that I have been experimenting with this all week. Every day, I’ve been wearing different looks to work especially as it was part of my resolution to wear different lipsticks and not just red or nothing. In an attempt to look more like a polished professional and less like the sleep-deprived, harassed mother that I am, I wanted to have a work appropriate lip colour.
As you can see, the shades are initially quite sheer but they are buildable and I was able to build them up to get a darker shade. Chubby Sticks are marketed as a tinted lip balm, and I would agree. They are incredibly moisturising and feel amazing on my lips.
I’ve worn Melon and Mauvelous quite a lot this week as a sheer colour and I have really liked the colours on. My only issue is that they don’t last very long and I feel like I am having to reapply every couple of hours or so. But they don’t promise to last for 12 hours, so maybe I am asking too much!
The sales assistant was lovely, she was obviously a make up addict like myself and took the time to show me different looks. She explained how Fuzzy Wuzzy could be used to create an ombré lip effect, and tried it with Red Violet for me. I might try it again for an evening out next time I can negotiate some child-free.
And even though I was child-free, I couldn’t completely forget that I am a mother. I made sure to pick up a little card for Miss B so that she can enter the Instagram competition for me.
Here’s her entry:
Fingers crossed that I win!! Clinique Crayola Chubby Lip Crayon Box is currently exclusive to Selfridges.
Have you tried these? Any tips for prolonging their wear?
