Now, I’m an all of nothing kind of person, if I like something I really like it and if I hate it, it’s dead to me. So when I decided to try beauty subscription boxes, I went a bit mad and tried loads. I recently wrote a post about Birchbox, which I really loved. But, because of testing each box fairly (and not because I’m a beauty addict who rarely needs an excuse to buy makeup…) I thought I’d try Glossybox.
Just like with Birchbox, I signed up for Glossybox at the very end of the July, when they had an offer code to get the first box for £6. This (or other similar codes), run quite frequently so it is definitely worth signing up for at least one month. Each subsequent box costs £10 with £3.25 shipping. As the boxes are charged at the start of each month, I received two in quick succession. I found that Glossybox shipped their boxes quite quickly which was a pleasant surprise.
This was the first of the special edition summer themed boxes, and I have to say I absolutely adored the packaging. The finishing touch of the tissue and ribbon felt so lovely and like a little gift to myself.
Spectrum Collections Small Fan A10
What has really impressed me with the Spectrum brushes recently is how soft they are. They are also so pretty. This brush works really well when used with the banana powder that is also in the box or to apply powder highlighter. The A10, like all Spectrum brushes, also gets bonus points for being cruelty-free.
Bellapierre Cosmetics Banana Setting Powder
This was actually a full size product – worth £25 – so already more than double the cost of my box. I’m not really a huge fan of using loose powders, but the fascination with baking makeup isn’t dying yet so I’ll give this a go. I’ve tried it once to help set my under eye concealer and the yellow tone did help to counteract the darkness.
Papanga Spiral Hairbands
These are always useful for when I need to tie my hair up and don’t want to risk damaging it with normal hair bands.
Emité Make Up Lip and Cheek Tint
I love multi-purpose products, and this actually wasn’t too bad. It gave a nice berry colour to my lips but it did have to be reapplied frequently. Unlike other lip and cheek tints, I didn’t find it drying and it was comfortable to wear. It lasted a little longer on my cheeks, but I had to make sure that it was blended promptly as it dried very quickly.
Monu Professional Skincare MonuSpa Soothing After Sun Lotion
In order to keep skin hydrated and cool after sun exposure, this cream contains aloe vera, vitamin E and shea butter. This lotion smelt so refreshing, felt gorgeous and cooling on my skin, whilst left my skin feeling moisturised. Another great product!
Again, the packaging was so cute and lovely! I was definitely impressed. So were my kids who have taken the boxes to store their pencil crayons in!
Valquer Ice Hair Mask
This sounded interesting. It is designed to be used once or twice a week and gives a cooling effect to hydrate hair. My hair is curly and it’s taken me forever to find a hair care regime that I’m happy with so there’s no way I would mess with it! Needless to say, I haven’t used this.
Baptiste 2in1 Dry Shampoo & Conditioner Orange and Pomegranate
Another hair product, so another product I couldn’t use. But I know that lots of people swear by dry shampoo and this one claims to refresh the roots and condition the lengths which sounds interesting.
Rodial Suede Lips
I received the shade Big Apple which was a ‘my lips but better’ shade for me and a perfect daytime look. It was matte, but contained vitamin E so wasn’t at all drying. Longevity wasn’t amazing, but it didn’t transfer every time I gave the kids a kiss, so I can’t complain.
Modellauncher Safari Sun Bronzer
This looked so pretty in the compact, it was a beautiful animal print and because it was mineral-enriched I really wanted it to work, but unfortunately it just didn’t. The shade was just too light for my skin. I’d be interested to find out if the do darker shades.
Purelei Aloha Bracelet
This was so cute and pretty, not really my style if I’m honest but my girls loved it!
Essence live. Laugh. celebrate! palette
I’m a sucker for packaging, and this was packaged absolutely beautifully! Glitter and sparkles are always a winner for me. I really liked the idea of this Essence palette, which consisted of little pans that you could add in to create your own palette. I received 2 eye shadows (Best Friends Are Forever and It’s My Birthday), Rhythm of the Night, which is a shimmered blush and My Special Highlight – rather predictably – a highlight. The pigmentation of the Essence products wasn’t amazing but it was easily buildable so I could make it work for me, even though the colours were not my first choices.
Would I continue with Glossybox?
I have to say, I was really impressed with Glossybox. They shipped incredibly quickly and there was real thought behind the packaging and product choices. It’s a shame that the August box has two hair products that I couldn’t use, but experimenting with the other products more than made up for it.
I think that when I have finished my testing of beauty subscription boxes that Glossybox will be the one that I return to, mostly because of the packaging. I’m a such a sucker for pretty packaging.
What were your thoughts on this month’s Glossybox? Are there any other subscription boxes that you would recommend?
