Another month, another box. Predictably this month’s Look Fantastic box was red for Valentine’s Day but as I am such a huge fan of the colour, I wasn’t going to complain! As always, the packaging was beautiful. Look Fantastic boxes always feel a lot sturdier that any of the other subscription boxes that I have tried, plus they use both shredded and tissue paper so each parcel feels luxurious almost like a present to myself.
I usually love the Look Fantastic boxes but was incredibly disappointed last month. I had high hopes for this month and it started much better as firstly the box actually turned up on time but that’s where the improvements ended! I actually think that this box is slightly worse than the month before. I am so tempted to cancel my subscription because again, most of the box is skincare products and the thing is the samples are (understandably) not big enough to notice if they actually work. Though I’m not sold in this month’s choices as they made me break out!
What was in the box?
As I’ve said the box was filled with mostly skincare, which never makes me happy. This is the trouble with these boxes, they can be so hit and miss. However, I was happy to see a makeup option so I decided to give that a go.
Caudalie Vinosource SOS Thirst Quenching Serum
This actually caught my eye as my skin is so incredibly dehydrated at the moment, I need ALL of the moisture in this freezing weather. Am I the only one? This serum contains hyaluronic acid which helps to hydrate skin, so I had high hopes for this yet it didn’t quite work for me. This can be used on its own under makeup so I don’t know if using it in conjunction with the Elemis cream was just too much for my skin, but one of them caused huge breakouts. Gutted!
This creamy mask interested me as it felt like a novelty; it’s been that long since I have used anything other than a sheet mask. It claims to improve the appearance of wrinkles and help to prevent them, something that is necessary now I’m in my mid-thirties. This felt so luxurious whilst on my skin but to be honest, I didn’t really notice much of a difference to my wrinkles, although my skin was left feeling soft and looking radiant. The Meso-Mask can be left on overnight so that might be the next thing that I try in my battle against ageing.
Dr Paw-Paw Original Multipurpose Clear Balm
I must admit, I have about three of these in my makeup collection and both of my girls have one in their school bags because we find the natural concoction of papaya, aloe vera and olive oil incredibly moisturising. I’ve lost count of how many these we’ve had. They are great for keeping lips moisturised in this dreadfully cold weather. I know that Dr Paw-Paw balm can be used for dry patches on the skin too, but I have never tried it because I’m super cautious about what I put on my body. However, maybe I should use up my stash of balms and see if it works as well as it does at moisturising lips.
Bellapierre Shimmer Roll in Champagne
This was a huge disappointment. I love anything with the word ‘shimmer’ in it and couldn’t wait to try this and nothing. In fact, it has so little pigment that when The Boy saw me taking a picture of this swatch, he asked why I was taking a photo of my bracelet…
He has a point.
Trifle Cosmetics Sublime Lip Scrub in Sugar Pear
I had never heard of this brand until I received one of their lipsticks in a recent subscription box. It was also beautifully packaged, I love how cute their designs are. This lip scrub container cacao butter, sweet almond oil, and pecan seed oil to exfoliate and nourish the lips. The addition of toffee mixture and pear extract ensure that it smells amazing! I actually really enjoyed using this.
Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream
I was so excited to try this, I’ve heard so many good things about it but it’s always been a little out of my price range. This 15ml sample size was quite a good quanity as only a pea-size amount is needed because the formula is so concentrated. At first, I think I used too much and this is possibly what caused my breakouts, however when I used less, it hydrated my dry skin and felt lovely under my makeup. I just hope that this size lasts because I really like it.
I think two of the products in this box really rescued it and lifted it in my estimatations because I was initially disappointed. The inclusion of the Elemis cream was a great idea, it’s becoming a bit of a favourite. Next month’s Look Fantastic box looks extremely promising as it is the Beauty Empowered Edition and is claiming to be full of ‘beauty heroes and multitasking products’. Fingers crossed it’s a good one.
