I’m not even going to pretend that I’m not obsessed with red lips. A slick of red lipstick is part of my non-working uniform. At the last count, I owned 57 lip products. Most of them lipsticks. Most of them red. What can I say? I know what suits me and stick to it. Red lipstick is like my uniform and I like all things sparkly almost as much. And then I found L’Oreal Colour Riche Gold Obsession in Rouge Gold. Red lipstick with red glitter. Heaven.
There is a problem with being red-lipstick obsessed. The difficulty being that, when I want to change up my look for a date (once in a blue moon) or a special occasion, it’s hard to find a different look. My going out face, is also my nursery run, supermarket trip and coffee shop face: black eyeliner and a red lip.
I was recently looking for a new evening look as I was going to an award ceremony to see my friend receive an award. As it was such a huge event and in an amazing venue, I wanted to find something slightly different so that I felt special. After a long chat with the sales person at the L’Oreal counter, I purchased this:
It is a bright red, but what attracted me to it was the fact that there are tiny particles of what appears to be red glitter which gives the lipstick a nice shine when it is worn. Thankfully the glitter is too small to be felt! I would want that all evening and it gives a really subtle effect.
The lady on the L’Oreal counter advised me that the range was designed to be layered and worn with the bright gold colour in order to give an ombre effect. Whilst the ombre effect did look nice on her, I didn’t feel that that the gold was flattering to my skin tone. I also felt that the look was too ‘editorial’ for my event.
It was really difficult to get a good swatch of the lipstick as the glitter didn’t show up well on my camera. However, if you look closely, you can just about see the beautiful shimmery effect. I loved it so much and the lipstick glides on perfectly. It is quite a soft lipstick and as I expected it to move quite a bit during the evening, I prepped my lips carefully in order to longevity.
During an evening of eating and drinking, I was pleased to have to only reapply my lipstick once. It lasted quite well and was quite moisturising. Which made a nice change from all the mattes I’ve been wearing recently. For the first application, I used a lipbrush but as even my retractable lipbrush wouldn’t fit into my tiny handbag, (not the best choice) I topped up straight from the bullet. I still managed to get quite a nice and smooth finish.
It’s not the first L’Oreal lipstick that I’ve tried but is definitely the first that has really impressed me. It seemed like quite a unique colour and was comfortable to wear. For me, it was the slightest tweak to my ususal look. Just enough that I look a little different. This lipstick is a good one to try for anyone who fancies a change but doesn’t want to depart too far from their normal style.
The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the packaging as to me it felt a little tacky but that’s just a personal preference. I’m not a fan of large lettering on my products. The packaging was perfectly functional and kept my lipstick secure. I’m being picky though. Overall, I was impressed with this lipstick and think it will be perfect for Christmas parties.
