I’m quite into liquid lipsticks at the moment. The first one I tried was the Chanel Rouge Allure Ink in Expérimenté which I absolutely love as it’s such a unique colour. (Check my review out here.)
As I loved the consistency and the longevity, I’ve been on the hunt for liquid lipsticks from different brands to test. So when a friend offered to buy me one for my birthday (only three months late but that’s a whole other story…) I knew what to ask for.
I’ve long been a fan of MAC lip products as Russian Red is my absolute all time favourite lipstick, so my first thought was to finally check out their Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick range, which launched last year.
I couldn’t decide on which colour was best for me as there were so many to choose from, especially with the new neutral and beige tones recently having being added to the collection. As it was a gift, my friend chose the colour and he selected Feels So Grand, a bright blue-toned red, as in his words ‘you’ll actually wear that one.’ I’m red obsessed – he may have a point.
I tested this on the same day that I tested the the Power Fabric Foundation so check out that post to see what the lipstick looked like when I was actually wearing it. I like it!
As with all liquid lipsticks, Feels So Grand had quite a thin, runny consistency. I actually found it quite tricky to use the applicator to apply it in the corner of my mouth and it made me look like a clown at first! It was so runny and moved everywhere, but dried quickly. When I used a lighter hand and was concentrating rather than watching my kids run around, I managed to get a better finish.
Feels So Grand dried quite quickly to leave a beautifully matte, almost velvet like finish. It’s so pigmented too the colour very pretty.
One thing I will say about this product that impressed was that it just doesn’t budge. At all. It stayed on my lips for over six hours through eating and drinking and very little damage was done to the colour. It was only when I ate a 99 ice cream with the kids (well it was the school holidays) that it started to fade. Bonus points for fading evenly and not leaving unsightly rings around my mouth.
It’s red. It’s a liquid lipstick. What else can I say?? I loved it! It lasted for such a long time which, when you’re a busy mum, is essential. I don’t always have time to reapply.
Another huge bonus for me is that it didn’t transfer everywhere. I drank, I kissed my kids, my 2 year old ran her hands down my face and this lipstick did not budge. It might just be my new favourite!
Have you tried any of the Mac Retro Matte liquid lipsticks? Let me know in the comments!
