I was excited to try this Retro Luxe Matte Lipkit as I am a fan of quite a lot of Makeup Revolution’s other products, and the Fortune Favours The Brave palette is one of my favourites. (Read the review of that here.)
I was hoping that it would be a good and affordable alternative to the Kylie Jenner lipkits that I want to try but no way am I paying that sort of shipping for…
I bought this as part of a huge haul from the Tam Beauty website which stocks Makeup Revolution, Freedom and I Heart Makeup. I do like that you can get all of these bargain ranges in one place and I love that there are comparative swatches so that you can compare with other colours. What I really dislike about ordering from this site is that the shipping takes ages. It was two full weeks between placing my order and receiving it. That to me is a bit excessive.
The pencil is really soft and glides on smoothly so I had high hopes for the liquid lipstick. I was disappointed. When I first tried it, I was a bit heavy handed as I was rushing and it became very sticky almost instantly and felt awful on.
So, I wiped it off and started again, this time using a much thinner application. But this was also unsuccessful. I found it very drying and no matter which of my lip primers that I used, it was still very drying and showed every line in my lips. In fact, it reminded me of the Sleek Matte Me lipglosses which I’m not too fond me.
I also found that although the colour looks like a pretty pinky nude here, in real-life under natural lighting it looked quite orangey which didn’t suit me at all.
As I was staying at home for the morning, I kept it on and I have to say that it lasted relatively well and didn’t transfer onto drinks or my kids! These are probably the only pros of this product so unsurprisingly, I won’t be buying it again!
