I usually love the Look Fantastic Box, it is definitely one of the best that I’ve tried, but ***spoiler alert*** this month is a bit of a let down. I should’ve realised that I wasn’t going to love this box when it didn’t arrived on time with the reason that I read online was ‘supply issues’ being behind the delay. My box usually arrives right at the start of the month, but it was almost the middle of January by the time it arrived meaning I was disappointed before it even came.
I think the fact that the Look Fantastic boxes are usually so amazing explained why I just didn’t enjoy this box. The bar has been set so high with some amazing products during the last six months, meant that I was expecting amazing new products this month too. None of the brands in the Look Fantastic January box were new to me, in fact some of them I’ve actually recently received, which disappointed me as the main reason that I subscribe to beauty boxes is to try new products.
Thoughts on the products:
As I keep saying, I wasn’t over-keen on this box, so the products sat on my side for a good week before I could muster up the enthusiasm to try them. To be honest, the products that I was sent weren’t horrendous. I guess it was just more the fact that it was a box of just skincare products. I am enthusiastic about skincare products, especially ones that smell amazing, but they just don’t excite me in the way that makeup does (though truth be told. I’m not sure anything excites me as much as makeup.)
Balance Me Congested Skin Serum
This is a lightweight serum and it felt so comfortable on my skin, I loved the light fragrance too. I had been having a hormonal breakout (joys of womanhood) and was interested to read that this contained kanuka oil, which is a natural anti-bacterial and eucalyptus to calm the lovely redness that comes with hormonal blemishes. Anything that clears my congested skin is a winner for me so this was one product I was interested to try. I used it in the morning and evening for a few days and my skin did look better. I am a fan of Balance Me skincare and use their gentle face washes pretty regularly, and I wasn’t disappointed by this.
Monuspa Warming Ginger Bath and Body Oil
This was supposed to give an awakening, energising effect but I must admit, I tried it in the evenings and found it to be extremely relaxing. I love the smell of ginger so using just a few drops in my evening bubble bath made me feel like I was at a spa day especially as the gorgeous fragrance filled the bathroom. It was incredibly moisturising and and kept its scent when I applied to my skin so I felt extra pampered.
Espa Pink Hair and Scalp Mud
As always, with mixed-race textured hair, I very rarely use the hair products in these boxes so inevitably I didn’t use this. I do accept that receiving unwanted products is part of the gamble with subscription boxes, I just wish that companies would have an option to deselect hair products as I get sent that many dry shampoos and hair masks that remain unused or get donated.
Korres White Tea Fluid Cleanser
This had a lovely fresh smell and I enjoyed using it in the mornings as I felt it woke me up and I need waking up at 5am. It has a nice milky consistency and I didn’t feel that too much was needed in order to get my skin clean, which is a good job as I received a very small size. In fact, all of the sizes in this box felt smaller than usual and for me, when testing skincare this is a bit of an issue as how do you know if it works?
Erno Laszlo White Marble Essence Lotion
Just as I commented with the previous product, the sample size was far too small to use for long enough to see if I got good results. This is a shame as this toner claims to ‘brighten and even out your skin tone’ and frankly, this is what I need at the moment. For the couple of days that I tried this, it didn’t sting or dry out my skin which usually happens with toners so that was a huge bonus! I just would’ve liked a little more to test it properly.
Modelco 3D Lash Primer
This was the one product that I was happy to receive. I use this under my mascara everyday and it has made a huge difference to my lashes. I genuinely can’t believe that I have made it this far in life without using a eyelash primer. My straight, short and stubby lashes need something and this really helps them to look long and thick. If you haven’t tried this, I’d definitely recommend it.
Look Fantastic January Verdict
If this was the first Look Fantastic box that I had ever received, I definitely would not be renewing my subscription. The whole box feels like it was rushed and a bit of an afterthought. Almost as if the team were on an extended Christmas holiday and forget that they had to curate a box for January until the last minute, and then rushed one out. I do like skincare products but the sizes are far too small to actually test them out properly. I didn’t even get a week’s worth out of some products, which was incredibly frustrating. Because I know how amazing the Look Fantastic box can be, I will be persevering with it. Their boxes are usually by far the best and I’m hoping that they will up their game next month and the February box will be amazing. Fingers crossed.
Did you receive this box? What were your thought? How do feel about receiving only skincare products in beauty subscription boxes?
