It feels like it’s been ages since I’ve written a product review. I’ve spent a while writing a few lifestyle posts; spending quality time with my girls and focussing on my day job. I absolutely promise that I’ve been buying and experimenting, I haven’t given up being a product junkie and it’s fitting that my first review in a while is the MAC Viva Glam Taraji P. Henson collection because I am more than a little obsessed with Taraji P. Henson herself. She’s amazing.
I’ve had these for a while, sitting in my product intray – which is really just a huge box that I store the products that I’ve bought or been given, but have not yet swatched or worn. I recently remembered that I had bought both the lipstick and the lipglass and decided to try them out.
I won’t lie, the main reason I bought them is the fact that I absolutely adore Taraji P Henson. She is an incredible actress, I’ve loved her since first watching her in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and she is my fashion role model in Empire. Taraji is definitely definitely my girl crush.
Viva Glam Taraji Lipstick
The Mac Viva Glam Taraji lipstick is a bright dark-fuchsia matte lipstick, and I think it’s quite a universally flattering shade. It reminds me of somewhere between Girl About Town and Rebel that I used to wear (and still have somewhere in my stash) all the time, years ago.
Viva Glam Taraji is a blue-toned fuchsia lip colour and of course, it being blue toned helps to make teeth look whiter and brighter. Who doesn’t want that??? It’s also a matte lipstick as so many of the new releases are at the moment, but it has a slight pearlescent effect so that it doesn’t look completely flat like some matte lipsticks can do.
I love the distinctive packaging too. It’s so bright, unique and stands out when placed next to my other MAC lipsticks. It’s even easier to find when I’m rummaging about in the pit of my cavernous handbag trying to find it too.
Like all of the MAC lipsticks that I’ve tried so far – which is a fair few – I found that Viva Glam Taraji lasted ages. I didn’t feel like I needed to constantly reapply it. Which for me makes it value for money, especially as it faded to a nice even stain.
Unlike other matte lipsticks, it was extremely comfortable to wear, and not at all drying. I wore it all day and received quite a few compliments on how much it brightened my face. I loved it!
Viva Glam Taraji Lipglass
Before I go any further, I must confess that I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with MAC lipglasses. I love the colour range and the pigmentation but they are just so damn sticky.
This one was no different but… it does have little fuschia pink glitter particles in it, so I was prepared to give it a go.
What I did like about this was that it is so versatile. It’s quite sheer and can be easily built up. This meant that I could wear it to work with just one sheer layer for a pretty light colour for work or as I did yesterday, wear it layered over the lipstick for a strong, glossy look. Either way, I love its versatility and the colour is just so pretty. If it’s good enough for Taraji P. Henson, it’s good enough for me.
