Earlier this month I was lucky enough to get an invite to the Stila x Brum Bloggers event at Harvey Nichols where, I got to try out some of their products and find out more about the brand. I had a great time chatting to other beauty bloggers, swatching products and meeting Stila’s UK Lead Pro Artist, Sascha. I even got my makeup done by her, it was so much fun. If you’re not following me on Instagram, head over there now to check out all of the pictures and swatches from the event.
Despite growing up in the nineties when the Stila Convertible Colour for Lips and Cheeks was everywhere, I had yet to try anything from the brand. So imagine how excited I was to try so many new products.
The gorgeous gold packaging was the first thing that grabbed my attention and after swatching and playing with products, there were so many items that I wanted to come away with. I have managed (just about!) to narrow it down to my favourite three products from the event. These three products are what I think you absolutely need to purchase in order to get your Stila collection started. You won’t be sorry that you tried them.
One Step Illuminate
This is quite simply amazing. If I am honest, I loved all of the One Step range, but my favourite had to be the One Step Illuminate. If you look carefully at the serum, you can see that it is made up of three different colours designed to brighten, warm and highlight the skin.
What I liked about this is when I tried it on my hand it instantly made my skin look brighter and it even illuminates my skin when I’m wearing foundation – and I like a full-coverage base. Anything that makes my dry and dull skin look healthy and glowing is always a bonus for me. The best part is that this isn’t just for the face. It can be used to give an instant glow to anywhere that you feel needs a lift. One of my favourite places to try this is on my décolletage when I’m heading out somewhere special. One Step Illuminate just makes everything glow.
Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow
I am such a magpie. Anything glittery gets my attention so I am not sure exactly how I managed to get through life without even knowing that this existed. The Glitter and Glow liquid eyeshadows are just amazing. They are so pigmented and glittery.
I have found that they are incredibly versatile and can look amazing when worn alone or over the top of eyeshadow. One thing I love about them is that they are buildable. I’ve used Gold Goddess as a glitter eyeliner, as a light glitter look for day, and my favourite look is to layer it over eyeshadow and use two layers of the Glitter and Glow to get a strong glittery eye.
What is so great with these is that there is so little fallout. The liquid formula glides on easily and dries quickly, locking the glitter in place and it doesn’t budge which is especially important for me as I wear contact lenses and often loose glitter can irritate my eyes.
The Glitter and Glow Liquid Eyeshadow is currently available in 11 shades ranging from a pretty baby pink to a gorgeously intense black. My favourites from the collection have to be Gold Goddess and Smoky Storm which is a mix of pewter and silver although I am desperate to get my hands on Wanderlust a sheer gold with pink sparkle that is part of the Bohemian Beauty Spring 2018 collection.
Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick
It is no surprise that a liquid lipstick made it to this list. I am borderline obsessed with lipstick liquids and these have made it to the top of my list. These are that good. Unlike some of the other liquid lipsticks that I have tried, the formula of Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick is of a slightly thicker consistency making it more of a cream and it is so much easier to apply.
The Stila Stay All Day liquid lipsticks contain Vitamin E and avocado oil, so even though they leave a pigmented matte finish, they are incredibly comfortable to wear. I almost forget that I am wearing them as I find them hydrating and comfortable.
Longevity is a huge thing for me when it comes to lip products, frankly, I’m too lazy to keep reapplying. This ticked that box and lasted absolutely ages. I wore the shade Firenze (a dusky mauve) to a baby shower and it didn’t come off at all. In fact, it wore really well and didn’t get patchy which pleased me because let’s be honest, it’s not good a look. I’m such a huge fan of these as they are just so comfortable, and last really well. I just need to venture back to Harvey Nichols to try more shades because what I definitely need at the moment is more liquid lipsticks…
What have you tried from Stila? What recommendations would you make?
